I tell you this, homemade almond milk can be more delicious, healthy, and inexpensive than store-bought brands. Here I show you how you can make it at home.
One of the things I don’t buy from the store is nut milk!! Why? It is because homemade nut milk can be healthier than store-bought brands. You can control what goes in it.
Even though there are few decent store-bought brands, most brands contain additives, gums, emulsifiers, sugar, and other nasty ingredients.
Plus, homemade nut milk is very easy and simple to make. It requires a few minutes to prepare. You only need nuts of your choice (almond, cashew, walnuts, or pecans), filtered water, and a blender.
Here in this post, I show you how you can make almond milk at home. The only difference with cashew and pecan milk is that you don’t need to strain it, even more easier!!
Basic processes of making nut milk are very simple, only three steps: soaking, blending, and straining. The soaking process is especially important because the soaking removes phytic acid found on the almonds skin which makes it easier for digestion and makes the minerals ready to be absorbed.
Generally, soaking nuts before eating them is also good. Soak nuts in salt water for 12 hours, rinse them, and dry in the oven on lowest heat.
Health Benefits of Almond
Almonds have a lot of health benefits because they are high in monounsaturated fats, fiber, protein, and various important nutrients. They are a good source of vitamin E, that’s why the almond oil is used in many beauty products. Almonds helps to control blood sugar due to its high fiber and healthy fat content. Also, they are high in magnesium, which may additionally help lower blood pressure levels.
Almond milk is a great alternative for people who have dairy allergy. It is vegan friendly, which can also be used as a substitute of dairy during the fasting season. (Fasting season here refers to a season where Ethiopian orthodox religion followers stop eating meat, diary, and animal products on top of fasting for certain hours of the day.)
You can use almond milk as a drink on its own, and with coffee or tea. Also, you can use in baking, cooking, and smoothies. My favorite way of consuming almond milk is using it in smoothies next to drink it on its own.
