Fatigue and Energy Fluctuations
As your body adapts to pregnancy, fatigue often makes a grand entrance. Elevated progesterone levels can leave you feeling more tired than usual. Listen to your body and prioritize rest. Napping or taking short breaks can help manage energy fluctuations.
Ah, the fatigue and exhaustion I experience in all my three pregnancies, almost the whole first trimester. The good thing is that I get even more energy during the second and third trimester.
I noticed my body was more tired during my second pregnancy and even more during my third pregnancy. Rightfully so, cause I have more responsibilities raising my active 18 months apart toddlers.

Typically I don’t have nausea and morning sickness that persistent. I can imagine how hard it can be for women with nausea and morning sickness during their first trimester period and some during the whole pregnancy.
Ensure you are eating healthy, nourishing, wholesome food and getting all the help from healthcare providers, families, and friends. Pregnancy is one time you deserve to get all the help.
Breast Changes
Your breasts might become tender, fuller, or more sensitive due to hormone changes. This is your body’s way of preparing for breastfeeding. Invest in comfortable bras and consider soothing techniques like warm compresses.
Frequent Urination
A sudden increase in trips to the bathroom might catch you off guard. Blame it on hormonal changes and increased blood flow to the pelvic area. Stay hydrated, but reduce liquids close to bedtime to minimize nighttime awakenings.
First Trimester Emotional Roller Coaster
Hormones aren’t just physical – they impact your emotions too. Mood swings, tears, and a range of feelings are entirely normal. Surround yourself with a supportive network and engage in activities that uplift your spirits.
I acknowledge the first trimester, even the entire pregnancy, is selective, and I can quickly get triggered. So I interact with people and engage in conversations internationally.
I like to avoid harmful and hurtful interactions. This includes social media. I was not using social media during the first trimester of my third pregnancy because I had no appetite for it.
Sense of Smell and Food Aversions
Your sense of smell can become incredibly heightened, and certain odors might trigger strong reactions. You might also develop food aversions – certain foods you used to enjoy might suddenly become unappealing. Listen to your body’s cues and focus on foods that sit well with you.
Increased Vaginal Discharge
Increased vaginal discharge is a common occurrence due to higher levels of estrogen. This discharge is usually thin and white and is a protective barrier against infections.
However, consult your healthcare provider if you notice any color, odor, or consistency changes. I like using this panty liner to stay dry and fresh.
While your baby is still tiny, your body starts gearing up for the months ahead. Your uterus expands, your blood volume increases, and your heart works harder to pump blood to support your growing baby. You might experience bloating, mild cramping, or even slight weight gain.
