The summer season is the right time to make mixed berry jam at home because fresh berries are abundantly available during this time of the year.
The great advantage of making jam during this season is, you can make big batches if you like and store them to use through winter, even for the whole year.
You can find fresh ripe berries everywhere, at the fruit section of your local grocery store, and farmers’ markets are few to mention.
In case you don’t find fresh berries in your area, frozen berries work for this mixed berry jam recipe as well.
Berries are small fruits that are high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. In addition, they are loaded with antioxidants known as anthocyanins. These compounds may reduce inflammation, boost immunity, and reduce your risk of heart disease.
There are many kinds of berries. I use blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry for the mixed jam recipe here.
Why Making Jam at Home
- It is healthier
Anything homemade is more beneficial for our health, in my opinion, because homemade jam has no or less sugar, no added preservatives, and emulsifiers.
You have complete control of what goes into it. You can make different flavors, adjust sweetness as you desire.
- It is easy to make
Making jam at home doesn’t require much time or effort. You only need the berries, a saucepan, and an immersion blender. No worries, if you don’t have an immersion blender, you can use a regular blender. You can even mash the berries with a potato masher or a fork.
- Costs less
Homemade jam is inexpensive compared to store-bought options. You will make high-volume healthy jam at home with a fraction of the money you would buy full of sugar small jar of jam.
